The Black Papers

What We Are

The Black Papers is an epistemically disobedient narrative publishing project.

We gather Black, African and Global Majority writers, thinkers, farmers, artists and organisers - and ask them to bring the full authority of their knowledge to the questions that matter most: about land and wealth, about who builds the future and about what becomes possible when "illegitimate" knowledge dares to take itself seriously.

Every edition of The Black Papers is built around one question. Not a theme, but a question - specific, honest and non-rhetorical. We are building syntropic narrative infrastructure for systems change - a deliberate, long term construction of stories that operate at the level of feeling and embodiment, not only theory and argument.

The dominant economic story — that growth is progress, accumulation is success, and the current arrangement of the world is natural and inevitable — was designed. It required centuries of violence to install and requires enormous institutional resource to maintain. You cannot displace it with better analysis. You displace it with better stories. Stories built with the same rigour, the same emotional precision, and the same somatic presence as the story they are replacing.

That is what we are building. Edition by edition. For the long term.

How We Build

Every contribution in The Black Papers is developed in alignement with the Learning 2 Unlearn (L2U™) methodology — a three-stage framework designed to move transformation from intellectual understanding toward embodied practice.

The methodology holds every contribution to a single standard: it must work in all three registers simultaneously.

Heart Icon

HEART: the somatic and emotional entry of a piece that lands in the nervous system before it lands in the mind.

Head Icon

HEAD: the rigorous structural analysis of a piece that names the systems at work - racial capitalism, colonial extraction, patriarchal resource capture - with precision and evidence.

Hand Icon

HAND: the actionable practice, tool, framework, question. Something that can be used today in a relationship, an institution, a community, an office, a field.

What We Are Building Toward

The Black Papers is an intergenerational narrative archive in the making

Edition by edition, we are constructing a permanent body of counter-narrative infrastructure — intellectual, creative, and analytical work that will serve the field of wealth systems change, new economy, and racial justice for years beyond any single publication. Each edition asks a different question. Each cohort of contributors expands the network of Global Majority knowledge-holders whose authority is placed at the centre. Each piece adds a framework, a tool, a practice that practitioners, educators, policymakers, and movement builders can draw on.

The arc is long. We are building syntropic narrative infrastructure for the generation that is 19 years old right now — the median age of Africa, the continent that will produce one in four people on earth by mid-century and the largest working-age population in the world. The stories that reach that generation, that shape how they understand wealth and build economic life, will determine the direction of the global economy for a century.

The counter-infrastructure for that future needs to be built now. With rigour. With love. With the full epistemological authority of the communities who have always known — because they have had no other choice — that extractive systems cannot sustain life.

With The Black Papers we are building long term intergenerational imagination infrastructure that can help build a world beyond capitalism
